The Big Picture

Each day the small things surround us and consume us.  We stand here thinking about money we don't have, things we want to have, things we think will bring us happiness.  Our focus continues to be on the small things.  What if there is a bigger picture than what we can see with small life blinders.

The other day I was at church and my husband asked if we could sit in the third balcony section.  I didn't want to, but I did.  As the sermon goes on and wraps up, they start to sing one last song.  I was not familiar with the song, so it gave me a chance to look around and watch people down below.  I started to watch the lady up front doing sign language and it was what I noticed next that hit me.  The people she was signing for were deaf, depending on her to give the message to them and were signing this song all together.  They can't hear, so likely can't speak.  They were using the only voice they knew to sing these praises to God.  I may not have everything, but I have a voice and can hear and have never thought to be thankful for it.  They were thankful without either.

Somehow, I can't help but think there has to be more to life and a much bigger picture than we are able to see without the help from our God.  I would've never been able to see this if I hadn't been able to step up and out to see the whole congregation, the whole picture.  That moment mattered to me.  I saw something that lifted my spirits and my hope.  I hope you ask God to show you a bigger picture than what you imagine or see right in front of you because sometimes, the here and now is so insignificant to what he has in store.  Keep watching, keep waiting and learn to be still in him.
